THE SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURS PROJECT

Are you a teacher on the lookout for your next fundraising challenge for your students?

Through the SEP, we partner with schools and ask their students to come up with an enterprising business idea. They are then given up to £10 of seed capital and challenged to put it into action!

The students make all of the commercial decisions; they design a business model, produce a marketing plan, test their financial skills, and learn a lot along the way.

It is remarkable what creative businesses they come up with. Making and selling 3D printed luggage tags, hand-painted tiles, recycled bottle lamps and printed t-shirts are just a few of the most innovative examples in recent times.

All of the profits they generate go towards teaching skills to other young people through our programmes, creating an impact far beyond the walls of the classroom.

HOW DOES THE SEP WORK?

PLAN FOR SUCCESS

Your students will have to come together and decide how to best use their ‘seed capital’ and what skills they can utilise to increase their fundraising potential!

Here are some starter ideas that have worked in other schools:

⚽ Sports and endurance challenges – think football tournaments!

💎Home-made jewellery and bath soaps

🎂Car washes and cake sales

📽️Film nights and quizzes

GET OTHERS INVOLVED

It’s always a great idea to try and take the challenge out of the classroom and get family and friends involved, you’ll be surprised at how many people will be inspired by the challenge!

THE GRAND FINALE!

Once the challenge has finished, we’ll give a wrap-up presentation highlighting the impact the money raised will have for young people across Sub-Saharan Africa, as well as a certificate ceremony for some of the best entrepreneurs that took part!

WHY THE SEP IS RIGHT FOR YOUR STUDENTS

DEVELOP IMPORTANT LIFE SKILLS

It’s a great way to teach students time management and planning skills as they work together to build their businesses from the ground up!

LEARN THE IMPORTANCE OF CHARITY

Students will learn about the work we do and the benefit of charity work and what it can achieve around the world in communities large and small.

THE DIFFERENCE IT WILL MAKE

The SEP is all about students seeing the world beyond the classroom and understanding the concept of charity.

We link the challenge to our Vocational Training Programme, which trains young people who have dropped out of school to learn new skills so they can find a job or even start their own enterprise.

KING’S SEP CHALLENGE

Over the course of seven weeks, 160 students from King’s College School, Wimbledon, took on the challenge raised an incredible £2,700 to support our work with other young people across East Africa!

In groups of 3-4, they came up with a whole host of impressive ideas, such as car boot sales, bake sales, and many more.

Dr Anne Cotton, the head at King’s, said:

King’s is proud of its history of participation in the SEP project and its partnership with WeSeeHope. The SEP offers a remarkable opportunity for our pupils to engage in a practical project that fosters teamwork, problem-solving, responsibility and ingenuity. By supporting this initiative, we not only enhance our students’ futures but contribute to the growth and development of young people beyond our walls.
