Steve Murigi joins WeSeeHope as CEO

2nd September 2024

We are delighted to share the exciting news that Steve Murigi has joined us as our new CEO.

Steve brings vast experience and thoughtful insight to WeSeeHope having worked across communications, advocacy, partnerships and programmes in the international development sector for nearly two decades.

For much of his career, Steve worked at Africa’s leading health INGO, AMREF Health Africa, in Kenya, Uganda and the UK. Here, he was responsible for developing innovative multi-stakeholder programmes and partnerships with some of AMREF’s biggest corporate partners, including GSK, Barclays, and the Guardian.

Most recently, Steve has been CEO of Primary Care International (PCI), a global organisation dedicated to improving primary care through innovative and cost-effective models. In his time there, Steve led exciting new partnerships with leading health organisations and NGOs. These included collaborations with Save the Children and the Tropical Health Education Trust (THET) to enhance healthcare access and quality in underserved regions.

Steve is passionate about nurturing localised and people-centred ways of working, values that are shared and championed by WeSeeHope and our partners across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Steve explains: “Recently, I embarked on a 10-day trip to Malawi and Tanzania, where I met with partners and key stakeholders and saw firsthand the locally-led, impactful work WeSeeHope is having on communities. It’s inspiring to be part of an organisation that truly walks the talk and commits to long-term, equitable partnerships with organisations embedded in the communities we serve, and is so clearly focused on long-term, sustainable solutions.

“I am thrilled to be joining the team and am excited to build on all that has been achieved under Mark Glen’s 18 years of leadership. I look forward to connecting with the many supporters who have been so integral to WeSeeHope’s success so far and looking to the future for this ambitious and highly effective charity.”

Alastair Mills, Chair of WeSeeHope, comments: “During the recruitment process, Steve’s passion, enthusiasm and deep understanding of working with communities and partners internationally really shone through. I have no doubt WeSeeHope will continue to thrive under his leadership.”

We are grateful to Lindsay Boswell for his time as Interim CEO and wish him all the best for the future. He has steered our organisation through a significant period of change, laying a strong foundation for our new leadership to build upon.
